In doing this, they heavily invest in artificial intelligence, curated data, domain-specific semantic relations. Being able to take a query, and automatically match it to an answer, is a pretty difficult job.

Ever noticed how well Google answers your question when it is posed on a website in a Q&A format? With an explicit question and answer indexed on a page, Google is exceptionally good at giving you an answer.
A cheaper route to search engine AI
Website owners already have the power to instantly turn Google into a AI-like answer machine. All they have to do is to include the questions that the page answers. This process could be automated, or semi-automated, with the results being placed inside a standard tag. Were this adopted as a web standard, Google would instantly become an even more awesome question-answering search engine.
