Info snacking with Kindle books on iPhone

So far, I’ve purchased 28 books from Amazon’s Kindle Store, reading them on my iPhone. This compares with my purchase of 16 physical books in 2009.
Objections. Some people ask me, “Isn’t it difficult reading the books on such a small screen?” To which I respond, “No: the screen width resembles a newspaper column, and you know it’s more efficient scanning a newspaper column than scanning a typical novel-size page.”
Other people report that they just prefer physical books (prior to trying reading digital books). The thing is: They like physical books because that’s the medium associated with all the positive feelings that accompany the reading experience. When you begin reading digital books on mobile devices, all those positive feelings become associated with the digital device.
Info snacking. Kindle on the iPhone has afforded a change in my reading habits. Given that I always have my books with me, I can fill “dead time” with an “info snack”. For example, picture me standing in line in a grocery store: I whip out my iPhone, it automatically opens to the most recently read page, I read a few pages, then put it away when I get to the front of the line. Info snacks for general reading was unfeasible before this technology.
Evaluation. Kindle books on the iPhone work well for texts that consist of a single text flow. Novels, biographies, histories and many types of factual books work well.
What doesn’t work so great are books with tables, heavy use of footnotes, callouts and images. Books that require signficant thought, re-reading and analysis are probably better consumed in physical form.
